Village Technology is a consulting
team focusing specifically on pedestrian-mobility
solutions in downtown settings. It was founded
by architect-urban designer John
Alt. Mr. Alt conceived the SMARTram 21 concept
while working on a transporation, parking and traffic
mitigation master plan for the business district of
Annapolis, Maryland in 1996. He subsequently received
the first U.S. patent for the “bidirectional
synchronization” method in 1997, and spent the
next several years developing the logic architecture,
vehicle concepts, and urban design applications. Mr.
Alt received a third, definitive, patent for the overall
SMARTram 21 synchronization architecture in 2006.
Allen Aubert--Planned Solutions,
Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, joined
Village Technology in 2000. Mr. Aubert is a Canadian
architect and planner specializing in sustainable
community development. He promotes and represents
SMARTram 21 throughout the Canadian Provinces.
